The 5th Annual Running of the Turkeys is coming soon!!!

Mark your calendars folks! Thanksgiving morning, November 27th, 2014 will be the day of our 5th 5k charity running event held here in York, SC.

5ks have made a major move into our area with many local organizations hopping on the healthy bandwagon. We think it is great that so many people want to go out into their community and find fellowship through running, walking, jogging, etc.

So please, put us on your calendar so we can all give thanks for our healthy bodies, our happy families, and our wonderful community this Thanksgiving!

Gobble, Gobble!

One Week to Go!!!

The final count down is here!!! We’ve hit a record number of entries, with over 400 participants, and most importantly, we will be able to give our biggest donation ever to PATH. There is so much to be thankful for, and we are looking forward to a great race!

Here are a few reminders:

1. Pre-race registration will end Tuesday, Nov. 26 at midnight. If you miss the cut off, you can still register the morning of the race at Trinity United Methodist Church.

2. If you’d like to pick up your race packet early, you can do that at Trinity United Methodist Church, on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 12-3.

3. Please consider bringing a donation for PATH to the race. Click HERE to go to their website, and HERE to view a list of their most needed items.

4. Sign up to follow the blog, and you’ll be the first to know when registration starts next year.

We can’t wait to see you all on Thursday!!!

Racing Update

The last day for early registration is November 8th.

DONATIONS:

As you are planning for the race, please consider bringing a donation for PATH. (To learn more about PATH, click HERE to visit their website. To view a complete list of their needs, click HERE.) As you look at the donation page, there are two columns. The one on the right are items which they are 100% dependent on from community donations. This includes everyday personal hygiene products, such as tooth paste and soap. One of their biggest needs right now is TOILET PAPER. If you’re at the store, and can pick up some extra rolls, please bring them to the race. If you want to donate before then, or any other time throughout the year, there is information on their website for donation drop offs.

As we all know, Thanksgiving is all about giving thanks for the blessings in your life. Those things could include family, friends, your home, your church, and/or football. PATH is an organization which provides blessings to people whose needs I find it hard to imagine. I’ve never been without food, or basic supplies like tooth paste and toilet paper. I can’t begin to know what it feels like to worry about how I will get those items, which I easily take for granted as I use them each day. And that is why I feel so thankful to be helping with this race. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful that I am a part of an event that will make a difference in other people’s lives. I can’t think of a better way to start off the holiday season.

A big THANK YOU from all of us in advance!

Ashley

Our 2013 Sponsors

We’d like to say a special ‘Thank you’ to our sponsors for the 2013 race. Their support makes this race possible, and in turn, helps so many at PATH. Thank you all!

Running of the Turkeys 2013!!!

The Running of the Turkeys Charity 5k Fun Run/ Walk / Stroller Jog in beautiful downtown historic York, SC is about to have its 4th anniversary! We have been very lucky to see growing crowds at each race and we hope this year to blow all our records out of the water!

This race was started by a few friends who wanted to run for a reason and out of that the Running of the Turkeys was born. This race is hosted Thanksgiving morning, which could not be more appropriate for it is all about giving back. All funds go to the local charity P.A.T.H. (People Attempting to Help) and there is also a food drive at the starting line.

In 2012, the race had over 300 participants, raised over $5,000, and brought in over 500 lbs. of food for our local population in need. That sure is something to be thankful for!

We know 2013 will bring even more surprises so we hope you can join us!

Cheers,

The Turkey Team

PS. Only 5 and 1/2 months until the Running of the Turkeys 2013!  More info to come soon!
